Free Virtual VCB Event: Honoring Black History Month

Join us for a Free Special Virtual VCB Event: Honoring Black History Month
Participants can enjoy a discussion of how Black History Month has evolved, and where we go from here; as well as a discussion of the intersection of living with a disability and being Black. We will also engage in meaningful poetry readings and conversation, and get moving with African drumming and dance.
With Special Guest: Dr. Brian Jones, Ph.D., Associate Director of Education for the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at The New York Public Library
Dr. Brian Jones is the Associate Director of Education at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. He taught elementary grades in New York City’s schools for nine years before pursuing a Ph.D. in Urban Education from the City University of New York Graduate Center. He writes about black education history and politics, most recently in a contribution to the new book, Black Lives Matter At School: An Uprising for Educational Justice.”
Dr. Jones will be discussing Dr. Woodson’s inception of Negro History Week, the “Freedom Journals,” and where we go from here; as well as the intersection of being Black and having a disability.
