WET Interns - All interns are first referred to VISIONS for assessment of their skills and interests.
Stipends - Qualified interns are paid by VISIONS using rehabilitation funds approved through the NYS Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped (CBVH). VISIONS is responsible for time sheets and dispersing checks.
Types of Internships - Interns gain experience in a variety of settings including stores, offices, universities, social service agencies, government offices and restaurants. Intern positions include receptionist, office assistant, sales representative, chef assistant, casework assistant and others.
Internship Selection –Interns are screened and carefully matched with employers based on the employers needs and the interns interests and abilities. The intern submits a resume and interviews with the employer. VISIONS makes the placement only when the match is good for both.
Hours - An intern generally commits between 20 and 25 hours per week.
Length of Internship - Internships generally are 13 weeks. The internship may be extended if the employer, VISIONS and the intern's CBVH counselor agree that it would be beneficial.
