In October 2011, Mayor Bloomberg announced the selection of VISIONS to operate the first senior center for blind seniors as one of eight Innovative Senior Centers as the "Cornerstone of the City's Age Friendly NYC Initiative." It is the first senior center exclusively designed for older adults who are blind or severely visually impaired in the United States.

The program features a daily, hot dinner meal served Monday through Thursday from 3:00-4:30 pm, and Friday from 2:30-4:00pm. We offer regular, vegetarian and kosher options. A full array of customized services programs ranging from benefits assistance to health and wellness programs to information available in a fully accessible facility.
"This is a citywide program," said Ruben Coellar, Chief Program Officer of VISIONS who has been supervising the innovative center. "It will provide us with the opportunity to develop a pioneering approach to the delivery of services for older adults who are blind or severely visually impaired. Everything we've always wanted to provide at a center exclusively planned for blind consumers will be available at the center," he said.
