Program Service Accomplishments

  • Vacation Camp for the Blind:
    Served over 400 participants in the summer of 2005 and more than 200 participants on selected fall, winter and spring weekends. Persons of all ages received vision rehabilitation therapeutic recreation and social services.
     
  • Community Services:
    • Vision rehabilitation and community outreach services impacted more than 1,000 individuals in communities throughout New York City. Fifty seven senior centers affiliated with VISIONS serve nearly 350 seniors with vision loss.

    • Blindline™: a new toll free call center and internet database for New York State resources, products and services for people with vision loss was accessed by over 1000 users.

  • Selis Manor:
    VISIONS at Selis Manor, the only New York City community center for people with vision loss offered counseling, therapeutic recreation, computer training and volunteer programs, expanding to include an after school and summer program for legally blind youth. Nearly 600 of the 1,000 registered participants took advantage of the unique offerings.
